We Are Going To Arrest Buyers Of Stolen Motor Vehicles: Police Nets 5 Suspects, Recovers 8 Cars

An operation carried out by the Flying Squad Unit and the Territorial Police of Kampala Metropolitan has led to the recovery of eight (8) cars and arrest of five (5) suspects over theft of motor vehicles.

Kampala Metropolitan Police mouthpiece, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire has said that of the eight vehicles, four have been claimed by the owners whereas the remaining four are currently parked at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Kibuli a Kampala suburb for safe custody.

“Two of the four vehicles parked at CID Kibuli are numberless,” Owoyesigyire said.

He further noted that police are working with other agencies to establish owners.

“During investigation, we have established that the recovered vehicles were stolen from Kampala Metropolitan Area and later driven by criminals to public parkings in Lugala, Kosovo, Nakulabye and Nakawuka,” he said.

He also stated that they have discovered that once they steal the cars, the suspects sell the stolen vehicles in whole or dismantle them and sell their parts.

“The police is currently interested in arresting the buyers of these stolen vehicles as it has been proved that they buy the said vehicles well knowing they are stolen,” he said.
