Five suspects have been arrested over a fire that caught the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries (MAAIF) national stores in Wandegeya.
In a fire that caught on Sunday afternoon, unquantified chemicals, drugs, pesticides, animal sperms, fridges and other inputs have been destroyed.
It is suspected to have been caused by rubbish that was being burnt from a nearby area.
The Ministry’s Spokesperson, Mrs. Connie Acayo says they are yet to establish the cause of the fire but says the fire is now under control.
The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire however said that there fire prevention and rescue services responded at the scene on time and are currently dealing with the situation.
According to Uganda Police Force, preliminary information gathered by the officers indicates that the storekeepers always burn rubbish every Sunday and it is suspected the wind could have blown the fire inside the store since the burning point is close to the stores.
